Opportunities and Challenges in digestive diseases research: Recommendations of the National Commission on Digestive Diseases

  • Senior level strategic planning overseen by HG Subject Matter Expert, Dr. Robert Hammond, NCDD Executive Director
  • Logistical support provided by in-house HG staff to assist with development of a 3-year timeline to map out Commission activities
  • Recruitment of 109 members for 12 Working Groups
  • Detailed development of all communications and coordination with leadership including the Commission chair and Working Group chairs to organize group activities, outline priorities, and create drafts for each chapter

  • Coordination of 5 in-person Commission meetings held in various regions of the U.S. including Washington, DC, Chicago, and San Francisco
  • Coordination and management of 20+ working group conference calls for prioritizing themes related to topic areas addressed in the report
  • Assurance of compliance with Federal laws, including FACA
  • Assignment of a lead science writer to develop draft text of the individual report components; staff compilation and copy edit of draft chapters for the final report
  • Comprehensive graphic design and website services; laid out and printed the final report to Congress


Third Strategic Plan of the National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine

  • Senior level science writing and strategic planning guidance provided by HG Subject Matter Experts, Drs. Kathi Hanna and Robert Hammond
  • Logistical support provided by in-house HG staff to assist with development of a 1-year timeline to map out report development
  • Detailed development of all communications and coordination with leadership to organize report activities, outline priorities, and create drafts for each section/chapter
  • Coordination of a Think Tank Meeting on Natural Products and a Workshop on Back Pain held in Bethesda, MD

  • Assurance of compliance with Federal laws, including FACA
  • Provision of a lead science writer to develop draft text of the individual components of the strategic plan; staff compilation and copy edit of draft chapters for the final plan
  • Website development and management for posting draft chapters and collection of public comments
  • Outreach to the CAM community regarding publication of the final plan


Healthy Weight for Life: Actions for Communities, Individuals,
and Families

  • Senior level science writing and strategic planning guidance provided by HG Subject Matter Experts, Rachel Greenberg and Brenda Broussard
  • Logistical support provided by in-house HG staff to assist with development of a 1-year timeline to map out the development of each of the action plans
  • Detailed development of all communications and coordination with leadership to organize activities, outline priorities, and create drafts for each section/chapter
  • Assurance of compliance with Federal laws, including FACA

  • Writing of a communications plan for promoting the Healthy Weight for Life action plans
  • Collaboration with IHS staff on development of content for the Healthy Weight for Life website
  • Design and development of materials for workshops to promote use of the Healthy Weight for Life action plans by Indian Health System clinicians
